New Living Room Flooring - Peel N Stick Tile

Went over my options (budget and health) and went with Peel N Stick tile for the Living Room. Allergies no longer want to live with wall to wall carpet and the budget will not accommodate ... well, I'm semi-retired and "Ballin on a Budget" sooooo, peel n stick it was.

I shopped on a Friday. Started around 2pm with the installation. Stopped around 10 pm (did not work constantly). Started up again Saturday morning and finished around 2pm with a few remaining touch-ups to complete. 14 x 13 room. So, only 182 sf, but lot's of "uneven" angles and slightly uneven distance to the wall.

I plan to make my way through the rest of the house by Summer's end. 3 Bedrooms, Hallway, and the Kitchen. I have the "floating" laminate flooring in the Kitchen. The Budget Buy from 2013 is making noise now, so I'll just return to peel n stick (ok and there were some DIY errors. eeks!!)

Before with a zillion rugs. I hate Recliner. There, I said it. moving along.

Lots of cutting, lots of "Is there an even distance of space in this house?!!"

Closet in the Home Office - Done

Home Office Closet Finally DONE!! "All Things Worked Together for MY Good." Me after all this. 😂 I had planned to purchase 2 upper cabinets, but I glanced at the upper cabinets over my fridge,  checked the contents and found .... they were basically empty.

I completed (ha!) my Kitchen reno back in 2012 and I didn't remember the uppers were different sizes. The one over the fridge was 36" and the one to the left was 30' ...  So I had to buy a 30" from Lowes. ... wellllllll, Lowes no longer sell the 30x15 .. only the 30x12 or 30x18. BUT it worked perfectly for purse shelf .. imagine that. Another item off the ole To Do List.

My Closet measurements:
60" wide
93" high
27" deep (w/o doors)
24" deep (w doors)

Supplies purchased from Lowe's and Dollar General
Not an exact breakdown because I had white paint, brushes and a sand block on hand

Boards: 3- Common 1 in x 16 in x 6ft ... had them cut down to 5 ft - $15.48 ea
Unfinished Stock Cabinet: 1- 30 in x12 x 12 in in $50.40
1 x 2 Furring Strips, Wall Paint, Drywall compound 3 @ 5/60 ea

Dollar General:
Storage Boxes - 4 Sets of 2 for $8 16qt (16 3/4L x 11 7/8W x 7"H)
2 - 10 Gal (20 1/2L x 14 1/2W x13 3/8 H) $10 ea

Installation equipment:
Power drill and driver
2" wood screws
Level (a MUST)
Pencil or Sharpie (my husband always grabs my sharpie)
Paint and paintbrush

In and around $275 Total

I measured and marked (after painting) where I wanted my shelves and the cabinets

I can't begin to tell you how much more creative and inspiring my Home Office feels knowing I have a tidy space behind that door.

A few before pics:

We/I removed the wall back in 1999 ... the room was formerly my daughter's bedroom. Removed wall to increase the size of the Living room.  Hmmm, jury is still out if that accomplish my goal. In my mind, the house still felt compartmentalized. Oh well, I had my Mom to help me put the wall back (my family was in the process of moving back to the house. We've been gone for about 4 years).

Previous view of Closet and room currently now being used as Home Office

I'm telling you, I CAN feel the vibes from my new clean/organized space. Crazy, even with a door in front of it can be felt.  I love this.

I still have a little more work to do with corraling the plugs, but 10x's better. 10x's.

Home Office Space

From a space dedicated to "taking care of the business of being an Adult" to maybe "Working from Home" .....  it seems we're all carving out Home Office space.

I've had a corner of the room/Dining Table setup and more over the years.  With our current Empty Nest situation, I have my pick of bedrooms, but I chose the one closest to the Front Door and even added a door to make it easier to step out and sign for packages. It seems when Family members find out you're home, you become their Post Office (kids, cousins, etc).  And some wanted me to call them and tell them when their package arrived.  Say what?  hahaha.  No, check your tracking info and come get it.

Back to my Home Office setup and arrangement (and re-re-re-re arrangement)

My current state:

My house is 1,300 sf (took all I had NOT to type ONLY). I have a treadmill and I chose to keep it in my Office ... I need it to stare back at me on a daily basis.

A little something with the cords/chargers, etc

Tip:  watch an animal documentary while walking

View into my Living room

I'm in my daughter's former bedroom .... I briefly claimed it as an Office back in 2001 ... and then after watching the whole HGTV "enlarge your space craze" .... I knocked down the wall connecting it to the Living room and attempted an Open and Airy feel .... With that out of my system, I'm back to using it as a Home Office now.

Surely, I used 100w bulbs. yikes!

2001 and Blue walls

Oh well, the journey continues .... use what you have and make it what you need and fall in love with you have.

Peace and Blessings until the next post.

Update - Finally Back and Getting My House in Order

Unlike Beyonce, I've been gone for more than a minute ....

Looking to get back to posting and communicating with everyone - those still around and all of the new sites I see.

My new fascination: Home Organization!!  For me, it's all about what I NEED.  When I can acquire what I NEED it becomes what I love and that brings me joy.  hahaha.  Yes, it's allll about what I NEED right now.

My current project is the 5 Junk Drawers in my Kitchen. Yes, 5.  We worked on Home Improvement projects for so long that having tools handy outweighed everything else, but now we can pair down to 1 Junk Drawer.

We're helping our daughter and former son-in-law with our grandchildren, so we'll use one of the drawers as their After School Homework storage drawer for the afternoons they're here with us.

My Current Before/After pictures are below .... Yes, we have "some work To Do" still on the 1 (one) Junk Drawer ... although we no longer have 3 previous car tags stored in there.

What have you done lately to Get Your House In Order?  :)

Now, let me see you 1, 2 Step (in my Ciara voice)

A couple of months ago, I noticed I was starting to get "bald spots" due to high traffic.

I purchased the steps weeks ago, and finally made the decision to "Get On That"

and it was "hot enough to fry fish grease, but I was in the shade" ....  still hot but not As Hot.
You know we always think it will less time than we could possibly imagine.  9 steps took me about an hour and a half (not including breaks to watch Rawhide and venturing off to clip limbs and re adjust flowers)  :)

to help myself to not over dig, because I've done this before ...
I used an unused knife to trace my step

After some "strategic digging and adjusting of dirt when it "Wobbled"
I installed my Step and "Brushed" for Neatness .....
I felt like an Umpire

And my little path of steps is done!!
(wipes sweat and lots of it from brow!)
